July 2017: Overvalued? The Answer is: Yes…No…Maybe!

Finding the right balance in times of uncertainty is a challenge, but the opportunities are always there.

By Larry C. Paxton

The 2nd half of 2017 got off to a roaring start with all stocks/commodities indices up significantly. At the same time all segments of the economy continued to show only modest to moderate growth, and nothing could be classified as anywhere near robust. The stock market recovery has lasted several years now without any major adjustment, which itself is a rarity.

So, what gives?

More and more investment professionals say a downward correction is imminent, that investors need to retreat to bonds, look at international equity investment opportunities, preserve cash in low interest yield funds, or maybe buy into gold or real estate. Then others say that the stock exchanges are still significantly undervalued because innovations, especially in technology, are driving forces that are increasing value. Certainly Apple, Amazon, Facebook, Microsoft, and others demonstrate that.

As shown in the summary tables below, it might be true that large cap companies are overvalued and the opportunities are in mid to small cap companies.

There are the unknown factors such as an apparent volatile, chaotic, and leaky White House, directionless House and Senate legislative bodies who can’t seem to get anything going, a press that enjoys reporting on and feeding controversy, and external forces such as the threats of North Korea, continued unrest in the Middle East, tension with Russia, and issues such as Brexit in Europe.

However, as The PBR1000 has demonstrated for several years now, there are always short term and long term investment opportunities, it takes some work to discern the next round of winners, and maybe even a little luck, but they are there and just have to be mined for you to come up with the golden nuggets, using excellent proven tools like The PBR1000!
