June 2019 The PBR1000: The Stock Market Bull Takes the First Half of 2019
By Larry C. Paxton
The June 2019 and Week 26 News Summary:The first half of 2019 ends with the primary news focused around international trade, including the ongoing US/China negotiations, issues with the USMCA to replace NAFTA, which the Mexican government approved and the Canadians are expected to approve, the UK Brexit concerns which is resulting in a new prime minister to be elected, and new Iran sanctions as the result of its shooting down a US drone. The US economy continues to grow at a moderate pace with some signs of more slowing because of the threat of tariffs on China and possibly other countries. The FOMC kept short term federal interest rates at 2.25-2.50% and seems leaning towards a possible cut at the next meeting to boost the economy. For Week 26 the drama has been the anticipation of President Trump’s participation at the G-20 summit in Japan, especially his planned meeting with China’s Chairman Xi, more sanctions on Iran and sword rattling on both sides, Federal Reserve Chairman Powell’s comments on the US economy and possible direction of Fed policy, and the start of the 2020 presidential election with the 2 nights of debates of the 20 Democrat candidates that qualified. For Week 26 The Stock Market Bear enjoyed the turmoil and just nicked a full 3-0 victory. However, June 2019 was the best stock market result in June over the past 80 years, with ending levels at about the same as for the end of April 2019, before the May 2019 meltdown, so The Stock Market Bullwins the month with a convincing 3-0 result.
The Week 26 YTD tally is:
The Stock Market Bull: 13 weeks
The Stock Market Bear: 7 weeks
Mixed Results: 6 weeks
The Month 6 YTD tally is:
The Stock Market Bull: 5 months
The Stock Market Bear: 1 month
