March 2018: The PBR1000 Gets A Big Stock Market Bear Hug.
By Larry C. Paxton
March featured another month of volatility from international trade as tariffs are threatened, the federal funds rate was increased with more anticipated during the year, there were more additions to the White House’s prestigious “You’re fired!” list, controversies surround the continuing investigation of Russia’s meddling in US elections, user privacy issues and data breaches continue to dog social media, retail and financial services, and the US President is being assaulted by the media for alleged personal indiscretions, but blows it off as he determinedly strives to achieve the agenda he promised his constituents. Confusion seems to reign in the hearts of investors so it was an easy second month in a row win for the Stock Market Bear.
On the other hand the economic data indicates continued moderate, consistent, and strengthening growth.
Mid-term elections should start heating up soon. It will be interesting to see how the voters respond to all of this in primary and the November general election as issues are debated and promises made by the candidates.
With volatility there are also new opportunities short and long term as the stock market and economy adjusts. It’s a good time to be a full Subscriber to The PBR1000 and The PBRMarketTools US Indices Snapshots!
