October 2018 The PBR1000: A Bear of a Month
By Larry C. Paxton
Even though the US economy continued to be robust, with low unemployment and increasing wages starting to take effect, it was balanced out by a combination of mixed corporate earnings reports(especially by the tech sector), US/China trade issues, intensely negative US general elections campaigning, and perhaps just a weariness from the US stock market doing so well for so long. As a result, volatility reigned during the month.
The Stock Market Bear took advantage of the most volatile month of 2018 so far to easily win bragging rights for October and now threatens what was shaping up as another a good year.
Month 10 YTD tally is:
The Stock Market Bull: 5 months
The Stock Market Bear: 3 months
Mixed Results: 2 months
Week 43 YTD tally is:
The Stock Market Bull: 17 weeks
The Stock Market Bear: 16 weeks
Mixed Results: 10 weeks
