While August saw the stock exchanges reach record highs, September ended  with significant losses. Is this the adjustment the Bears keep talking about? Or is it based on a lot of uncertainties not only in the US, but around the world? Continued issues include the Ukraine/Russia conflict, with a fragile ceasefire in place, but no resolution really in sight. More unsettling has been the attacks on ISIS in Iraq and Syria. As with Ukraine, what is the world’s responsibility, how should it proceed, what results do all parties want? Here in the US voters are being bombarded with all kinds of confusing, mostly negative messages, for the upcoming midterm elections. It looks like the Republicans will retain control of the House, but the Senate is still questionable, and regardless of what happens, it still looks like gridlock for the next congressional session. The European economic recovery is rather anemic, China is not experiencing as high a growth rate. New developments include the pro-democracy demonstrations in Hong Kong, How will China deal with this very visible and widely reported event? Another event and a growing concern is the Ebola outbreak in West Africa. How can these nations and the world contain this very nasty virus? How widespread will it become, how will it affect the economies of the world? In the US the economic recovery is still weak, unemployment, while gradually dropping, is still too high, income inequality is becoming a bigger issue. The Federal Reserve Board continues to be very cautious, and that seems to have worked well so far. With all the big question marks, how will  the world stock and commodities markets respond?
