FAQs

Here are some answers to Frequently Asked Questions about The PBR1000. All references to The PBR1000 Monthly Snapshots include the supplementary reports that are also generated during a month.

Q. What is the criteria for a company to be included in The PBR1000?

A. The company’s principle executive headquarters must be in the US, be a publicly traded company on an authorized US stock exchange, and state its financials in US dollars. We confirm this information from the company’s latest annual corporate 10-K report. Also, the company must have done at least $1 billion in revenues in its last fiscal year.

Q. What are the data sources for The PBR1000?

A. Quite a bit of the data is from a company’s annual 10-K report and occasional quarterly 10-Q report, available from their corporate website under Investor Relations. Corporate websites are the source for the hotlinks to the Board of Directors and Executive Management Team. However, it should be noted that a few companies do not provide those links and The PBR1000 hotlink is inactive in those cases. We also use the US federal government SEC Edgar system for some information. For stock prices we use publicly available financial services websites. In The PBR1000 Monthly Snapshots there is a hotlink to get the most current stock price using these resources. You can check out the Links page for the most commonly used data sources websites. Please note that the data we provide is from these public resources, they are not our own data, and therefore we are not liable in any way. We are also not a financial advisory services firm, we just provide the available data in a variety of formats to help with your analysis and for you to decide which actions you might want to take.

Q. Are all the Fortune 500 companies included in The PBR1000?

A. No. The PBR1000 is a separate compilation of only US publicly traded companies. It does not include large private companies, mutual companies, non-profits, and associations like the Fortune 500 does.

Q. Why is The PBR1000 in MS EXCEL .xlsx format?

A. This a a very standard product, it’s easy to learn the basics, it’s a useful tool for navigating around information, and it is easy to generate meaningful reports, especially comparison reports that can be helpful. With a basic understanding of MS EXCEL a person can also quickly create their own customized reports.

Q. What if my current version of MS EXCEL is in .xls format?

A. Generally, you can still do a successful download. You will lose some cosmetic functionality. For example, Report 1, a list by Company Name, includes alternating color and white lines to help you focus on information of a particular company. The way this is done is not supported in the .xls format.

Q. Why is The PBR1000 published monthly?

A. A lot can happen in a month. We always update the stock data and other data fields that might change. There are usually some stock splits that require us to update that historical stock price information. There are usually some  mergers and acquisitions, de-listings from the stock exchanges when a company goes private,  a change of headquarters to outside the US, and other situations that can occur during a month that can affect whether or not a company remains on The PBR1000. Also, we sometimes add some new data fields and provide some additional helpful analysis reporting. We work hard to keep The PBR1000 updated on a monthly basis to give you the most current and accurate data.

Q. Do the companies in The PBR1000 stay the same each month?

A. Not necessarily. In fact, sometimes we think we should call it The PBR1000+ because we usually include a few more than 1,000 companies to help us stay at that level on a quarterly basis. Once again, there are mergers and acquisitions, stock exchange de-listings,  changes of headquarters to foreign countries, and other situations that might occur. So, The PBR1000 can change on a monthly basis. For annual subscribers we let them know which companies were deleted from and added to the previous The PBR1000 Monthly Snapshots.
