The Art of the Big Deal was very much in evidence in May. Highlights include a lot of drama in Pfizer’s attempt to acquire AstraZeneca, the pursuit of Allergan by Valeant Pharmaceuticals, GE’s bid for Alstom, Hillshire Brands desire to acquire Pinnacle Foods only to find itself being chased by Pilgrim’s Pride, then by Tyson Foods. It appears that the Men’s Wearhouse/Jos. A. Banks dance will finally end with a hopefully nicely dressed merger, while the “Deal of Equals” between Omnicom and Publicis fell apart.
