The Week 48 News Summary: The US economy continues to be robust as shown by the Thanksgiving Thursday through Cyber Monday holiday shopping period breaking records, especially from online sales. The Federal Open Market Committee minutes also indicated a strong economy, and comments by Federal Reserve Chairman Powell indicated a possible softening on federal short term interest rate increases. Tech and healthcare stocksrallied during the week, corporate earnings and guidance were somewhat mixed, some major acquisitions were completed, US/China trade tensions eased a bit, the new US/Mexico/Canada trade agreement was signed by its leaders and now needs to be ratified by those countries. The devastating California wildfires have been contained. The US elections are over, along with a lot of the acrimony that accompanied that process, but there are a lot of political ramifications and continued bitterness between political leaders as Presidential tweets continue to fuel the fires, contrasted by comments about the controversial migrant caravan arriving at US borders and the more peaceful annual lighting of the nation’s Christmas tree in Washington DC, which offers us some hope for peaceful times.
